About me

Pianist and lecturer

I learned music before I learned how to write. As a child, playing the piano came easy, driven by playfulness and genuine interest. Later, I studied music at university, where I specialised in classical and jazz piano and had the opportunity to attend three different music academies in Denmark and Austria.

I was very active during my studies and directed several different bands – primarily big bands, but also show bands as well as performing pop and rock music.

After completing my studies at the music academy, I suddenly fell ill and was diagnosed with schizophrenia. I struggled to accept my diagnosis, as there had never been any signs of mental illness before it emerged so abruptly.

I still go through rough patches, but I always find my way back. In my daily life, the main impact of my condition is dealing with the side effects of the medication I need to take.

Now I give talks on the import role music plays in my life and in relation to my mental health.
